Backyard Food Forest

Description
In this interactive class we'll get started on the how-to's for growing a food forest at home. We'll talk about getting to know your property through observing the natural elements and cycles in your yard, water storage through rain gardens, cisterns, and rain barrels, composting and fertility, pollinator attraction through native plants and cover crops, plants and plantings. We'll talk about native fruit and nut bearing trees and shrubs as well as companion plantings for fruit trees, soil preparation, when to plant, how to place and plant trees and shrubs and resources for learning more. This class combines these topics into a cohesive how-to for folks wanting to grow a tasty, healthy, and sustainable landscape at home.
Russ Henry is owner of Giving Tree Gardens, co-chair of the Homegrown Minneapolis Food Council, and is currently beginning a soil health generation business called New Land.
